Marshall gives young Henne inviting target
(Wed, 08 Sep 2010 14:37:02 PDT)
A sheepish Chad Henne recalls attempting the sort of desperation pass a young college quarterback will try: Under pressure, on his heels, heaving a prayer to a tall teammate in the end zone. More than once, Braylon Edwards came down with the ball for a Michigan touchdown. "It would happen a couple of times," Henne says.

NFL division races: AFC East
(Wed, 08 Sep 2010 07:20:00 PDT)
A look at the strengths, weaknesses, rehab issues and what to expect in the AFC East, as provided by SN's NFL correspondents: New York Jets The strength: With the return of All-Pro CB Darrelle Revis, the Jets have as good a cornerback tandem as any team in the NFL, and perhaps the best one. Opponents picked on Lito Sheppard last season, but it might not be so easy to repeatedly test Antonio Cromartie, whose skills are suited for man-to-man coverage.

A few days after linebacker Andra Davis joined the Buffalo Bills in free agency this spring, Paul Posluszny was impressed when he got a phone call from his new teammate, who wanted to break the ice. If Posluszny, who plays the same position, was going to lose his defensive play-calling duties to the eight-year NFL veteran as Buffalo makes the switch to a 3-4 scheme, he was reassured by the all-in...
Bills Team Report
(Tue, 07 Sep 2010 19:15:38 PDT)
Settle on a starting quarterback. Nurse an offensive line together. Learn the 3-4 defensive scheme.
When it comes to what transpired in Bills training camp and the prospects for the 2010 season, two out of three ain't bad.
Coach Chan Gailey and his staff bit off a lot to chew when they inherited a roster physically beaten up by injuries and mentally beaten up by finishing with a 6-10 record. Buffalo is riding a franchise-record 10-year playoff drought. With minimal activity in free agency and the drafting of a running back first overall rather than a quarterback, Buffalo is banking on Gailey's offensive creativity and a shift to the in-vogue 3-4 on defense to make it competitive again in the rugged AFC East. Gailey promised a competition for the starting QB...

Big concerns: AFC East
(Mon, 06 Sep 2010 18:57:00 PDT)
A look at each team's biggest concern with the start of the NFL season less than a week away. Buffalo Bills QB Trent Edwards seems to be rejuvenated under new coach Chan Gailey. Edwards had an efficient preseason, displaying a good grasp of the offense. But will the poise and confidence he showed during the summer carry over in the fall? Perhaps no player is more important than Edwards, who struggled mightily last season. He missed open receivers and seemed uncertain where to go with the ball.
