(Fri, 10 Sep 2010 10:31:00 PDT)
Notice a chill in the air? September arrives and bring the return of the National Hockey League -- on the ice, not in boardrooms, conventional halls or hearing chambers. Feel free to cheer. Sporting News notes the change in season with its 2010-11 Hockey yearbook, which previews the marathon to next June's crowning of a new Stanley Cup winner. To mark the occasion, SN provides online looks at all 30 teams, leading up to the season's start -- which again this year is in Europe.

(Thu, 09 Sep 2010 22:40:10 PDT)
Three months after the Blues acquired him in a trade with Montreal, goaltender Jaroslav Halak was introduced to the team's fans recently.
In a press conference that was open to the public, about 100 fans turned out to give the Blues' newest goalie a rousing ovation as he donned the team's jersey for the first time.
"It's really nice that the fans showed up," Halak said. "It's like being drafted (again), putting a jersey on and taking pictures with the owners and general manager. It was nice to see, and I'm looking forward to a new season."
It's been almost three months since the Blues traded for Halak. The Slovakia native spent his offseason at home, so his first trip to St.

(Thu, 02 Sep 2010 15:11:00 PDT)
Carey Price, who played second fiddle to Jaroslav Halak last spring during the Montreal Canadiens' surprising playoff run to the Stanley Cup finals, has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the team. Price likely will inherit the starting job entering the season, thanks to an offseason deal that sent Halak to the St. Louis Blues for two prospects. The trade created controversy with the postseason hero being shipped out in favor of the team’s underachieving goalie of the future.
